Embracing the Value of God’s Commandments: A Call to Reevaluate
Shabbat Shalom!
“Therefore, I love your commandments above gold, above fine gold.”
In the religious realm, there persists a notion that God’s commandments have been rendered obsolete. Yet, people fail to realize God’s commandments start at the very beginning with “be fruitful and multiply” and ends with “do not add to or take away from this book (Revelation).”

God has been speaking His instructions to humanity and then more specifically to His people all throughout the scriptures, including in the New Testament through Yeshua. In some cases, Yeshua went a little farther by expounding on some Old Testament commands.
Like David, Yeshua knew how much wisdom resided in God’s instructions. Even Solomon, the wisest man on earth, concludes
“The end of the matter: all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” – Eccl. 12:13
David, a wealthy king, valued God’s rules over the most precious metal available on earth. Solomon, the wisest and wealthiest man to ever walk planet earth, decided in the end nothing beats following God’s commands. He went as far as to say it was our duty since God is our Creator and Master. Yeshua gave up his heavenly throne, became flesh, suffered as a human being and still determined doing God’s will, following His ways was the best thing to do. He showed us this example by following God’s ways and teaching others to do so too.
These three men are our examples to follow. We should look at God’s commands, His instructions for living a better life, as they did. We should love all God has given us, including His way on how to treat others as well as ourselves, on how to approach Him and give Him the honor due to His name.
A Material World
David’s world is no different than ours is today. Becoming material wealthy and gaining a high status in society often takes precedence. I believe David’s declaration serves as a tender reminder of the true worth of God’s commandments. They offer guidance, wisdom, and a pathway to a fulfilling life, far surpassing the fleeting allure of earthly riches.
As we contemplate David’s words, let us reconsider our attitudes toward God’s commandments by reflecting on our own priorities and values. Let us recognize their significance in our lives and prioritize them above all else. For in embracing God’s rules, we discover a treasure far more precious than gold—the richness of a life lived in alignment with His divine purpose.
In the end, let us be able to echo the sentiment of David who declared, “Therefore, I love your commandments above gold, above fine gold.”
