The New Testament Quoting the Old Testament Part 10

Some people don’t realize how often the Old Testament is quoted in the New Testament. I found this list on the internet and decided to write out the actual scriptures so you can read them for yourself. There are over 200 quotes, but I am only listing a few at a time.

New Testament Quotes Old Testament Part 10 - cswisdom.com

Since beginning this list I have found several scriptures not lining up. I am glad I didn’t just post a list of scriptures without actually going through them like I am now by writing each of them out. I encourage you to always verify things before posting them because ultimately, you are responsible for the information you give, whether right or wrong. My goal is to help people connect the Old and New Testaments and realize you can’t have one without the other.

Blessed is He Whose Sin is Forgiven

By David. A maskil: How blessed are those whose offense is forgiven, those whose sin is covered! How blessed those to whom ADONAI imputes no guilt, in whose spirit is no deceit! Psalm 31:1-2

“Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered over; Blessed is the man whose sin ADONAI will not reckon against his account.” Romans 4:7-8

Keep Your Tongue from Evil

[If you do,] keep your tongue from evil and your lips from deceiving talk; turn from evil, and do good; seek peace, go after it! The eyes of ADONAI watch over the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry. But the face of ADONAI opposes those who do evil, to cut off all memory of them from the earth. [The righteous] cried out, and ADONAI heard, and he saved them from all their troubles. Psalm 34:13-17

For “Whoever wants to love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit, turn from evil and do good, seek peace and chase after it. For ADONAI keeps his eyes on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayers; but the face of ADONAI is against those who do evil things.” 1 Peter 3:10-12

My Heart is Sad

My soul, why are you so downcast? Why are you groaning inside me? Hope in God, since I will praise him again for being my Savior and God. Psalm 43:5

And he said to them, “My heart is so filled with sadness that I could die! Remain here and stay awake.” Mark 14:34

Loved Righteousness and Hated Wickedness

You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy in preference to your companions. Your robes are all fragrant with myrrh, aloes and cassia; from ivory palaces stringed instruments bring you joy. Psalm 45:7-8

But to the Son, he says, “Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever; you rule your Kingdom with a scepter of equity; 9 you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Therefore, O God, your God has anointed you with the oil of joy in preference to your companions.” Hebrews 1:8-9

Right in His Sayings

Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil from your perspective; so that you are right in accusing me and justified in passing sentence. Psalm 51:4

Heaven forbid! God would be true even if everyone were a liar! – as the Tanakh says, “so that you, God, may be proved right in your words and win the verdict when you are put on trial.” Romans 3:4

Pay Back for Deeds

If you say, “We knew nothing about it, “won’t he who weighs hearts discern it? Yes, he who guards you will know it and repay each one as his deeds deserve. Proverbs 24:12

For he will pay back each one according to his deeds. Romans 2:6

Led Captives

“Awake, awake, D’vorah! Awake, awake, break into song! Arise, Barak! Lead away your captives, son of Avino’am! Judges 5:12

This is why it says, “After he went up into the heights, he led captivity captive and he gave gifts to mankind.”  Ephesians 4:8

Zeal for His House

Because zeal for your house is eating me up, and on me are falling the insults of those insulting you. Psalm 69:9

(His talmidim later recalled that the Tanakh says, “Zeal for your house will devour me.”) John 2:17

Dining Table a Snare

Let their dining table before them become a snare; when they are at peace, let it become a trap;let their eyes be darkened, so that they can’t see, and let their bodies always be stumbling. Psalm 69:22-23

And David says, “Let their dining table become for them a snare and a trap, a pitfall and a punishment. Let their eyes be darkened, so that they can’t see, with their backs bent continually.” Romans 11:9-10

Desolation in Home

Let the place where they live be desolate, with no one to live in their tents. Psalm 69:25

“Now,” said Kefa, “it is written in the book of Psalms, ‘Let his estate become desolate, let there be no one to live in it’; and ‘Let someone else take his place as a supervisor.’ Acts 1:20
