The New Testament Quoting the Old Testament Part 8

Some people don’t realize how often the Old Testament is quoted in the New Testament. I found this list on the internet and decided to write out the actual scriptures so you can read them for yourself. There are over 200 quotes, but I am only listing a few at a time.

New Testament Quotes Old Testament Part 8

Since beginning this list I have found several scriptures not lining up. I am glad I didn’t just post a list of scriptures without actually going through them like I am now by writing each of them out. I encourage you to always verify things before posting them because ultimately, you are responsible for the information you give, whether right or wrong. My goal is to help people connect the Old and New Testaments and realize you can’t have one without the other.

Vengeance Belongs to YHVH

Vengeance and payback are mine for the time when their foot slips; for the day of their calamity is coming soon, their doom is rushing upon them. Yes, ADONAI will judge his people, taking pity on his servants, when he sees that their strength is gone, that no one is left, slave or free. Deuteronomy 32:35-36

Never seek revenge, my friends; instead, leave that to God’s anger; for in the Tanakh it is written, “ADONAI says, ‘Vengeance is my responsibility; I will repay.’” Romans 12:19

YHVH Chose His People

For the sake of his great reputation, ADONAI will not abandon his people; because it has pleased ADONAI to make you a people for himself. 1 Samuel 12:22

God has not repudiated his people, whom he chose in advance. Or don’t you know what the Tanakh says about Eliyahu? He pleads with God against Israel. Romans 11:2

A Man After YHVH’s Heart

But as it is, your kingship will not be established. ADONAI has sought for himself a man after his own heart, and ADONAI has appointed him to be prince over his people, because you did not observe what ADONAI ordered you to do. 1 Samuel 13:14

God removed him and raised up David as king for them, making his approval known with these words, I found David Ben-Yishai to be a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want. Acts 13:22

Praise Among Nations

So I give thanks to you, ADONAI, among the nations; I sing praises to your name. 2 Samuel 22:50

and in order to show his mercy by causing the Gentiles to glorify God – as it is written in the Tanakh, “Because of this I will acknowledge you among the Gentiles and sing praise to your name.” Romans 15:9

I’m the Last One

He answered, “I have been very zealous for ADONAI the God of armies, because the people of Israel have abandoned your covenant, broken down your altars and killed your prophets with the sword. Now I’m the only one left, and they’re coming after me to kill me too.” 1 Kings 19:10

“ADONAI, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars, and I’m the only one left, and now they want to kill me too!” Romans 11:3

Seven Thousand Men

Still, I will spare seven thousand in Israel, every knee that hasn’t bent down before Ba’al and every mouth that has not kissed him. 1 Kings 19:18

But what is God’s answer to him? “I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not knelt down to Ba’al.” Romans 11:4

Fire from Heaven

Eliyahu answered the commander of fifty, “If I am in fact a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and burn you up, along with your fifty men.” Fire came down from heaven, and it burned up him and his fifty men. The king sent him another commander of fifty, together with his fifty men. He said to him, “Man of God, the king says, ‘Come down immediately!’” 2 Kings 1:10-11

When the talmidim Ya`akov and Yochanan saw this, they said, “Sir, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to destroy them?” Luke 9:54

and they came up over the breadth of the Land and surrounded the camp of God’s people and the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and consumed them. Revelation 20:9

Trapped by Own Cleverness

Trapping the crafty in their own tricks and foiling quickly the plans of the false. Job 5:13

For the wisdom of this world is nonsense, as far as God is concerned; inasmuch as the Tanakh says, “He traps the wise in their own cleverness,” 1 Corinthians 3:19

You are My Son

I will proclaim the decree: ADONAI said to me, ‘You are my son; today I became your father.’ Psalm 2:7

He has fulfilled for us the children in raising up Yeshua, as indeed it is written in the second Psalm, ‘You are my Son; today I have become your Father.’ Acts 13:33

For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father”? Also, God never said of any angel, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son.” Hebrews 1:5

So neither did the Messiah glorify himself to become cohen gadol (high priest); rather, it was the One who said to him, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.” Hebrews 5:5

Break Them with Iron like Clay

You will break them with an iron rod, shatter them like a clay pot. Psalm 2:9

To him who wins the victory and does what I want until the goal is reached, I will give him authority over the nations; he will rule them with a staff of iron and dash them to pieces like pottery. Revelation 2:26-27
