God Can Answer Your Detailed Prayer Like He Did the Abraham’s Servant

When the story of Isaac and Rebekah is told it seems like the servant’s prayer is glossed over. I don’t know how many times I’ve glossed over it myself.

This week when I was reading this Torah portion, this part jumped off the pages at me. It was as if God was telling me I needed to get a little more detailed in my prayers.

Here we have Abraham’s oldest servant being sent on a mission to find Isaac a wife. The servant asks a few what-if questions. Abraham answers him and off he goes in search of a wife from Abraham’s people, which were in the city of Nahor.

Now the servant wanted his mission to be successful. Not just in finding any kind of wife but finding the one God had designed specifically for Isaac. So, he prayed a detailed prayer about how he would know which woman he was to bring back.

Would you know it! It was a quick and simple prayer. It was answered almost immediately. Within 24-hours he had accomplished his mission with God’s help. He didn’t have to struggle, weigh options, or stress about anything. He asked God and God answered.

I wonder if this is what the scriptures meant by “you have not because you ask not.” Wow! Remember, God isn’t afraid of you getting detailed in your prayers.
