When Wickedness Abounds, Destruction Follows

Today we’ll look at another reason God came to earth. It was to see about Sodom and Gomorrah.

Can you imagine living in a place where everyone around you is dishonest, lying, murdering, molesting, raping, or aiding and abetting those who are doing horrible things? Everywhere you turned you had to watch out for your life. There was no one you can trust. No one who had your back. No one you could count on. It really is a dog-eat-dog world. It’s every man, woman, or child for him/herself.

Now imagine even the law was corrupted – the judges, the law officers, the lawmakers, and the lawyers. Even if you tried to get justice, there was none.

The strong beats down the weak. The weak cry out with no one to help them. Blood spills constantly in the streets, seeping into the earth. And that’s where this passage of scripture comes in at.

God came to the earth one day for a couple of reasons. One was to let Abraham know the time had come for Sarah to conceive a son. The second was to see about Sodom and Gomorrah. The outcry of innocent blood and the peoples’ sins had reached heaven. God got off His throne and came down to see if what had reached Him in heaven was the truth.

He saw for Himself and dispatched two angels to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah after Lot and his family was clear from the soon to be disaster. I believe Lot was allowed to survive because of God’s friendship with Abraham. He knew how much Abraham cared for his nephew.

Now most people know the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. The people of the city acted wickedly, doing whatever they wanted to do. The angels came to destroy them after telling Lot to get out and don’t look back. Lot’s wife couldn’t help herself. She looked back and turned into a pillar of salt.

Like the Days of Noah

All of this wickedness reminds me of Noah’s time. The only difference is that God had decided to stop this before their wickedness reached beyond their valley. Sodom and Gomorrah gave us a glimpse into what happened during Noah’s time and what will happen in our time.

I know we have seen a lot of wicked things done to human beings throughout history. It’s a miracle that human beings have lasted this long without being totally wiped out by God. I believe that’s because of Yeshua’s willingness to stand in the gap for us.

I pray the human race will get it together and begin treating each other with decency and respect. That we will eventually treat others like we want to be treated. Otherwise, Noah’s flood and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah will be our lot too.

What do you think you can do to prevent wickedness from taking over your family, your neighborhood, your city, your state, and your country?
