What is the Gospel?

The most popular answer to “What is the Gospel?” is the dead, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. But did you know that the gospel was preached in the Old Testament?  Did you know that God did the preaching? There is nothing new under the sun, not even the gospel.

For Good News has also been proclaimed to us, just as it was to them. But the message they heard didn’t do them any good, because those who heard it did not combine it with trust.” Hebrews 4:2

Also the Tanakh, foreseeing that God would consider the Gentiles righteous when they live by trusting and being faithful, told the Good News to Avraham in advance by saying, “In connection with you, all the Goyim will be blessed.” Galatians 3:8

If you want to get a full understanding of a topic as it pertains to the scriptures then the only way to do that is to start at the beginning. The gospel is no different. To fully understand the gospel you must connect the dots with the Old Testament. That way the full picture will come into view. According to the following teaching there are several components to the gospel, which makes up a complete view of the gospel according to God’s word.

  • the gospel of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Yeshua the Messiah)
  • the gospel of the kingdom, which John the Baptist and Yeshua himself preached
  • the eternal gospel preached during the end-times in the book of Revelation
  • the mystery of the gospel preached by Paul

Comprehending how each of these coincides with Old Testament scriptures will help you have a solid foundation in what is the gospel. Listen, take notes, and look up scriptures for yourself as you watch these videos. Enjoy.
