The Calm after the Storm

On June 22, 2010 I woke up at four in the morning.  I was awaken by the loud thundering and extra bright lightening. As I lied in bed I could hear the birds just talking away like they do every morning from 4am – 6am. They weren’t afraid. They were going about their daily routine.

Normally, I am afraid of storms, but listening to the birds gave me comfort. I knew everything was okay and that this storm would pass. So I got up and read my Bible. Finally, after an hour and a half I went back to bed.

Storms Sounded Like Bombs

Now I know this might not seem like a big deal to most of you, but I grew up deathly afraid of storms. My mother worked nights, my father was always gone and my brothers were always trying to scare me one way or another.

Then when the storms came all I heard were these loud noises that sounded like bombs. I would pull this big orange lazy boy chair to the corner of the room and get behind it. I sat holding my knees to my chest with my face down. I would pray and cry until the storm had passed.

As I grew up this fear followed me. It wasn’t until I learned to trust God that this fear left me. Every now and then the fear tries to come back to haunt me. Thank the Lord Jesus Christ it doesn’t get the better of me. I don’t feel alone and scared out of my wits.

A New Day

Later that morning when I opened my eyes, the sun was shining through my window. I couldn’t believe it. I had to see what the outside world looked like. It was gorgeous. It didn’t even look like a storm came through our area. All I could think of was just how good God is.

For me, I found that trusting Yahweh Elohim is the way to have peace of mind.

The Science of Lightning

Recently, I found out they lightning is so important. It really put storms in perspective for me. Most of our air is made up of nitrogen, which plants need to grow. However, the nitrogen in the air is not in a form that plants can use. So here comes lightning flashing through the air, changing the nitrogen into a form that plants can use. Now the plants can grow and do what it was created to do. What a wonderful process. Everything has its place in the world.

Prayer Time

Our Heavenly Father, who is in heaven,
Thank you for delivering me from my fear of storms. Thank you for reminding me of what a great comforter you are to me. Thank you for the way you created the world. I love you.
In Yeshua the Messiah’s name, Amen.
