The New Testament Quoting the Old Testament Part 9

Some people don’t realize how often the Old Testament is quoted in the New Testament. I found this list on the internet and decided to write out the actual scriptures so you can read them for yourself. There are over 200 quotes, but I am only listing a few at a time.

New Testament Quotes Old Testament Part 9

Since beginning this list I have found several scriptures not lining up. I am glad I didn’t just post a list of scriptures without actually going through them like I am now by writing each of them out. I encourage you to always verify things before posting them because ultimately, you are responsible for the information you give, whether right or wrong. My goal is to help people connect the Old and New Testaments and realize you can’t have one without the other.

He Rules Everything

You made him but little lower than the angels, you crowned him with glory and honor, you had him rule what your hands made, you put everything under his feet – sheep and oxen, all of them, also the animals in the wild. Psalm 8:5-7

And there is a place where someone has given this solemn testimony: “What is mere man, that you concern yourself with him? or the son of man, that you watch over him with such care? You made him a little lower than the angels, you crowned him with glory and honor, you put everything in subjection under his feet.” In subjecting everything to him, he left nothing unsubjected to him. However, at present, we don’t see everything subjected to him – at least, not yet. Hebrews 2:6-8

The last enemy to be done away with will be death, for “He put everything in subjection under his feet.” But when it says that “everything” has been subjected, obviously the word does not include God, who is himself the one subjecting everything to the Messiah. 1 Corinthians 15:26-27

Mouths Full of Curses

His mouth is full of curses, deceit, oppression; under his tongue, mischief and injustice. Psalm 10:7

Their mouths are full of curses and bitterness. Romans 3:14

No One is Righteous

For the leader. By David: Fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They deal corruptly, their deeds are vile, not one does what is right. From heaven ADONAI observes humankind to see if anyone has understanding, if anyone seeks God. But all turn aside, all alike are corrupt; no one does what is right, not a single one. Psalm 14:1-3

As the Tanakh puts it, “There is no one righteous, not even one! No one understands, no one seeks God, all have turned away and at the same time become useless; there is no one who shows kindness, not a single one! Romans 3:10-12

Your Holy One will Not Decay

I always set ADONAI before me; with him at my right hand, I can never be moved; so my heart is glad, my glory rejoices, and my body too rests in safety; for you will not abandon me to Sh’ol, you will not let your faithful one see the Abyss. You make me know the path of life; in your presence is unbounded joy, in your right hand eternal delight. Psalm 16:8-11

For David says this about him: ‘I saw ADONAI always before me, for he is at my right hand, so that I will not be shaken. For this reason, my heart was glad; and my tongue rejoiced; and now my body too will live on in the certain hope that you will not abandon me to Sh’ol or let your Holy One see decay. You have made known to me the ways of life; you will fill me with joy by your presence.’ He was speaking in advance about the resurrection of the Messiah, that it was he who was not abandoned in Sh’ol and whose flesh did not see decay. Acts 2:25-28, 31

This is explained elsewhere: ‘You will not let your Holy One see decay.’ Acts 13:35

Words Throughout Earth

Every day it utters speech, every night it reveals knowledge. Without speech, without a word, without their voices being heard, their line goes out through all the earth and their words to the end of the world. In them he places a tent for the sun. Psalms19:2-4

“But, I say, isn’t it rather that they didn’t hear?” No, they did hear “Their voice has gone out throughout the whole world and their words to the ends of the earth.” Romans 10:18

My God! My God!

For the leader. Set to “Sunrise.”A psalm of David: My God! My God! Why have you abandoned me? Why so far from helping me, so far from my anguished cries? Psalm 22:1

At about three, Yeshua uttered a loud cry, “Eli! Eli! L’mah sh’vaktani? (My God! My God! Why have you deserted me?)” Matthew 27:46

At three, he uttered a loud cry, “Elohi! Elohi! L’mah sh’vaktani?” (which means, “My God! My God! Why have you deserted me?”) Mark 15:34

Gamble for Garment

They divide my garments among themselves; for my clothing they throw dice. Psalm 22:18

So they said to one another, “We shouldn’t tear it in pieces; let’s draw for it.” This happened in order to fulfill the words from the Tanakh, “They divided my clothes among themselves and gambled for my robe.” This is why the soldiers did these things. John 19:24

After they had nailed him to the stake, they divided his clothes among them by throwing dice. Matthew 27:35

Then they nailed him to the execution-stake; and they divided his clothes among themselves, throwing dice to determine what each man should get. Mark 15:24

Yeshua said, “Father, forgive them; they don’t understand what they are doing.” They divided up his clothes by throwing dice. Luke 23:34

Praise in the Congregation

I will proclaim your name to my kinsmen; right there in the assembly I will praise you: Psalm 22:22

When he says, “I will proclaim your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.” Hebrews 2:12

Everything Belongs to YHVH

By David. A psalm: The earth is ADONAI’s, with all that is in it, the world and those who live there; Psalm 24:1

For the earth and everything in it belong to the Lord. 1 Corinthians 10:26

My Spirit into Your Hands

Into your hand I commit my spirit; you will redeem me, ADONAI, God of truth. Psalm 31:5

Crying out with a loud voice, Yeshua said, “Father! Into your hands I commit my spirit.” With these words he gave up his spirit. Luke 23:46
